LADAKH DESTINATIONS

Nubra Valley lies about 150 km north of Leh where the rivers, Shyok and Siachan, meet form a large valley. This valley separates the Ladakh from the Karakoram Ranges and the famous Siachen Glacier lies to the north of the valley.

Kargil is a city in the Kargil district of Ladakh, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the second largest town in Ladakh after Leh. It is located 60 km and 204 km from Drass and Srinagar to the west respectively.

About 20 kms south-east of Rangdum stands the Panzila axis,the most isolated of all the trans-Himalayan valleys. It is a picturesque tableland surrounded by snow. As the Zanskar road winds down the steep slopes of Penzi-la to the head of the valley.

The Shanti Stupa was built by both Japanese Buddhists and Ladakh Buddhists. Original idea was stated by Nichidatsu Fujii (Fujii Guruji) in 1914.The mission of Nichidatsu Fujii was to build Peace Pagodas and temples over the world and try to resurrect Buddhism back in India.

Drass (3230 m), 60 km west of Kargil on the road to Srinagar, is a small township lying in the centre of the valley of the same name. It has become famous as the second coldest inhabited place in the world by virtue of the intense cold that descends upon the valley along with repeated snowfalls during winters.

Pangon Tso also referred to as Pangong Lake, is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m (14,270 ft). It is 134 km (83 mi) long and extends from India to China. During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water. The lake acts as an breeding ground for birds.

Tso Moriri is a lake in the Ladakhi part of the Changthang Plateau in Jammu and Kashmir in northern India.The lake is fed by springs and snow-melt from neighboring mountains. Most water enters the lake in two major stream systems, one entering the lake from the north, the other from the southwest.

Khardung La is a mountain pass located in the Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.The pass on the Ladakh Range lies north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The Siachen Glacier lies part way up the latter valley.Khardong La is historically important as it lies on the major caravan route from Leh to Kashgar in Central Asia.

The Chang La is a high mountain pass in Ladakh.It is claimed to be the second highest motorable road in the world. Chang La is approached from Leh via kharu and sekti village by a black top road. The climb is very steep and requires a careful drive. The descent from chang La towards tangtse or darbuk is again very steep. The place is a must go for nature lovers.
